Step 4. Above the video file list there's a Format button which is on the left side of the Convert button with a green background color. The green Convert button could be easily seen so you should also find the Format button easily. On the format button is the label that shows the current output format. Click on it and you will see 3 more options, two of them are Edit and Change. Click on Change to jump to the output format list and choose one from it. After finding the ideal format, click it to select it as the default output format and you will return to the interface at the same time the format is set as default. Use the Edit button mentioned above to change the parameters of the format you just chose.
Step 5. Click Convert in the upper right section and there will be a sidebar coming out from the right side of the video list. The last thing to do before starting the digitizing process is set where to save the resulting output videos in. The output path is shown at the top of the sidebar whereas the Convert button for starting the digitizing process is at the bottom. How to digitize DVDs on Mac with MakeMKV
MakeMKV is also a great choice for digitizing DVDs. The reason why I didn't go with Handbrake is that you will have to go extra miles to get Handbrake to rip protected DVDs and it might seem too complicated for beginners. And MakeMKV is a lot easier to use than Handbrake regarding DVD digitization.
MakeMKV is also very easy to operate because there aren't many settings you need to go through. You can do all things in the same interface.
- Step 1. Put the disc in your DVD drive and launch MakeMKV.
- Step 2. MakeMKV will detect the disc soon after launching. You can tell the disc is detected by the appearance of a DVD drive icon showing up in the center of the interface. Click on the icon and MakeMKV will start to import the content in the disc to MakeMKV.
- Step 3. When the whole disc is loaded, the content in the disc will be listed on the left side in the Titles menu. Click on Title to extend it and see all the content in the disc. Check the box in front of the subtitles, audio tracks and video clips you need to make them selected so that when you start the digitizing process, they will be included in the output video.
- Step 4. Just like every program, you will have to set the output path first before you can start digitizing the DVD. The output path is designed to sit on the right side of the Title menu. Choose the right location for the output file and then click the MakeMKV button next to the output path, and MakeMKV will start converting the DVD to a MKV video. For a regular DVD, it might take 30 to 60 minutes to get the whole digitizing process done so you probably won't want to just wait there for it to finish.
MakeMKV can only create MKV video files and the resulting video files are usually much larger than a normal, compressed movie file.
